DysFUNctional Theater

Philadelphia, PA

DysFUNctional Theater was founded in 2001 by Ruchama Bilenky (bass player for the band Sylvia Platypus and Red Cedar Strings) with the mission of bringing obscure, female-oriented works to  the Philadelphia stage. Past productions have included The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler, Fefu and Her Friends by Maria Irene Fornes, Savage In Limbo by John Patrick Shanley, The Alchemy of Desire by Caridad Svich, Sam Shepard & Patti Smith’s CowboyMouth, and Statements After an Arrest Under the Immorality Act  by Athol Fugard.

FLESHFIRE is a multimedia performance piece based on the newly revised and augmented text of the widely acclaimed love poetry of Lili Bita, which has been published in book form in its third edition by Somerset Hall Press of Massachusetts.  The performance includes selected poems accompanied by music, dance, and choreographed movements. This mix of genres will express the myriad experiences of love and Eros available to adults of all ages, affinities, and gender identities.
